Indotutors Celebrates Indonesian Culture at the Colourful Indonesia Festival in Singapore

On 22 August 2026, Indotutors was honoured to be invited to join a morning celebration organised in conjunction with Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day in Singapore. The day began with a 3.8km Fun Walk from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, followed by breakfast and the Colourful Indonesia Festival. It was a wonderful morning spent with members of the Indonesian community, representatives from various organisations and friends of Indonesia, bringing together fitness, food, culture and community in one lively celebration.

The morning started early, with everyone gathering at the Indonesian Embassy from around 7am for the Fun Walk. By the time the walk was about to begin, there was already a cheerful atmosphere as participants arrived, caught up with one another and got ready for the morning ahead. At 8am, the 3.8km Fun Walk was officially flagged off by Dr. Hotmangaradja Pandjaitan, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to SingaporeThe route started from the Embassy and brought everyone back to the same place, making it an enjoyable way to begin the day’s celebration. We were happy to see representatives from different organisations as well as members of the Indonesian community coming together for the walk. It was nice to see familiar faces, meet new people and simply enjoy the morning together.

Breakfast After the Walk

After completing the walk, everyone gathered back at the Embassy for breakfast. It was definitely nice to sit down, relax and enjoy some food together. There was a lovely spread of food, including bubur pulut hitam, bubur kacang hijau, Japanese sweet potato, boiled peanuts and sandwiches. It was a simple breakfast, but it was just what everyone needed after the morning walk. More importantly, it gave everyone a chance to sit together and chat. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, with people enjoying their breakfast and taking a little time to catch up before the day’s celebrations continued.

The Colourful Indonesia Festival

After breakfast, the morning continued with the Colourful Indonesia Festival at the Embassy. The atmosphere became livelier as visitors explored the different activities, performances and stalls celebrating Indonesia’s culture. There were cultural performances throughout the event, bringing music, dance and traditional elements to the celebration. One of the fun highlights was seeing Hanoman make an appearance, which certainly added some excitement to the morning. There were also door prizes and various activities for visitors to enjoy. Indonesian food vendors were on hand with a tempting selection of food, while other stalls offered kebaya, Indonesian handicrafts and various Indonesian items.

One of the things we enjoyed about the festival was that there was something for everyone. Visitors could watch the performances, try Indonesian food, browse the stalls or take part in hands-on activities such as the live cooking class and batik painting. It was a lovely way to experience different parts of Indonesian culture in one place, and the whole event had a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

More Than Language — Connecting Through Culture

At Indotutors, we believe that learning Bahasa Indonesia goes beyond vocabulary and grammar. Language and culture are closely connected, and understanding one can help us appreciate the other. Being part of events like this is one of the things we enjoy because it gives us a chance to experience Indonesian culture outside the classroom. Food, traditions, music, art and even everyday conversations give us a better understanding of the language and the people who speak it.

For our students, learning Bahasa Indonesia is not just about being able to form sentences correctly. It is also about becoming more comfortable communicating with Indonesian speakers and understanding the culture behind the language. Whether you are learning Indonesian for work, travel, family, personal interest or simply because you enjoy learning languages, having a connection with the culture can make the learning experience much more meaningful.

Celebrating Culture and Community

The morning was a wonderful reminder of how food, language, traditions and shared experiences can bring people together. We were happy to be part of the Fun Walk and to continue the morning at the Colourful Indonesia Festival, celebrating Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day together with the community in Singapore. At Indotutors, we look forward to creating more opportunities for our students and the wider community to discover Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture.
