Learning Beyond the Classroom: Students Meet the Police Attaché from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia

A memorable courtesy visit that gave our students the opportunity to practise conversational Bahasa Indonesia with Kombes. Pol. Hirbak Wahyu Setiawan, the Police Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore.

On 12 August 2017, our language centre had the pleasure of welcoming Kombes. Pol. Hirbak Wahyu Setiawan, who was serving as the Police Attaché (Atase Kepolisian) at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore (KBRI Singapura), for a special courtesy visit. He was accompanied by his wife and a member of his team, making it a memorable day for both our students and teachers.

At our language centre, we believe that learning a language is about more than memorising vocabulary and grammar. The best learning happens when students use the language in real conversations and authentic situations. Having the opportunity to interact with a distinguished guest from KBRI Singapura gave our students a unique learning experience that they will always remember.

Following the interactive classroom session, everyone came together to enjoy a traditional nasi kuning bento lunch. This informal gathering gave students, teachers, and our guests more time to chat, exchange stories, and learn about one another in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It served as a wonderful reminder that language not only helps us communicate but also beautifully brings people together across cultures.

We are sincerely grateful to Kombes. Pol. Hirbak Wahyu Setiawan for taking the time to visit our centre during his tenure at KBRI Singapura. His willingness to interact with our students and encourage them to speak Bahasa Indonesia made the occasion truly special and reflected the spirit of friendship between Singapore and Indonesia.

It remains one of the cherished memories in our centre’s journey. We are delighted to share these photographs, which capture the joyful moments of the day—from lively classroom conversations and group interactions to our lunch gathering. We hope they bring back fond memories for those who were there and offer future students a glimpse into the warm and engaging learning experiences we strive to create.
